And then I debated whether or not to put it on Tumblr…but I decided it was important. Because in my own way, I can (unfortunately) point out exactly what is wrong with men when they don’t realize how hard it is to be a woman. How we do not have equal opportunities and freedoms in everyday life….

This is horrible, but the exact reason a woman should carry weapons around on public transportation.  You have the RIGHT to ignore assholes that try to hit on you, and if they don’t go away…make them :)

Funny that’s exactly what I plan to do as soon as I leave work.

Beautiful!!!!  I honestly don’t understand people who only use the verses that prove their point while ignoring the verses around them that would make their position so much worse….

This is press release from Tony Perkins, the President of the Family Research Council, supporting North Carolina’s ban on gay marriage.  He says that the “natural” definition of marriage is a union between one man and one woman, which is the usual line we hear.  He goes on to say; however, that marriage is the only “natural” procreation.  Whoa, buddy, hold the phone!!!  I’m a single mother who chose not to force someone into marriage, and now I find out my procreation wasn’t “natural” because I didn’t get a ring and piece of paper first.  If you won’t let my surrogate brothers (or sisters as the case may be) have that right, why am I forced to do it to be considered “natural”?!***

If marriage is the only “natural” way to raise children, then why not let everyone get married so they can raise those children?  Better yet, why not push for a constitutional ban on divorce?  I’m not advocating such a thing, I don’t think anyone should stay in a bad relationship… Still, let’s take his thoughts to the extreme since that’s where he wants to go….

Look a family can be many different things and why do we need to get government involved in spreading intolerance that’s disguised as “faith” or “nature”?  Nature can’t be controlled or limited so let’s let it be :)

***Note: so many of my friends are gay men so I’m not family, but I’m damn close)*****

Moreover, for anyone who defends the Obama administration here and insists that the U.S. Government simply must have access to all forms of human communication: does that also apply to in-person communication? Should home and apartment builders be required to install monitors in every room they build to ensure that the Government can surveil all human communications in order to prevent threats to national security and public safety? I believe someone once wrote a book about where this mindset inevitably leads. The very idea that no human communication should ever be allowed to take place beyond the reach of the Government is definitive authoritarianism, which is why Saudi Arabia and the UAE — and their American patron-ally — have so vigorously embraced it.

Greenwald points out that the FBI does not need this, because they can go to a judge, get a warrant, and use traditional surveillance when it’s necessary. “But what about encryption?!” Well:

the problem cited by the FBI to justify this new power is a total pretext: “investigators encountered encrypted communications only one time during 2009′s wiretaps” and, even then, “the state investigators told the court that the encryption did not prevent them from getting the plain text of the messages.” As usual, fear-mongering over national security and other threats is the instrument to justify massive new surveillance powers that will extend far beyond their claimed function.

I’m profoundly disappointed in the Obama administration’s record on civil rights and privacy. I expected better from a president who is a Constitutional law scholar.

tl;dr: The very idea that no human communication should ever be allowed to take place beyond the reach of the Government is definitive authoritarianism

This scares me.  All this will accomplish is that innocent people will be persecuted while the criminals will find another way to continue doing what they do….

Apparently today has become ”Fight for Equality and Human Rights” Day :)

… we had this discussion on my birthday (crazy enough), and we basically all agreed that it was ridiculous. but if my one friend says “but those fruit do have a lot of sugar…” one more time, I’m gonna punch him in the face.
